“ What is good powerpoint presentation? ”

What is a good presentation slide? What is the purpose of the slide? Have you ever recall the moment of attending a speech and endure yourself to stay focus throughout the session? Therefore, a good presentation slide will not only aid you in your presentation, it act as a source that keep things interesting for the reader as well.

Slide Layout
Based on the PowerPoint Presentation, the slide layout could be make a few changes. For example, the phrases should be located from left to right instead of placing it at the center. Make sure there is a title at the top to make it easy for reader to follow (Russell 2010). However, like the below slide, the important points should be place at the top as it will be difficult for audience at the back to read it if the point is located at the bottom instead .

Avoid Fancy Fonts
According to Russell (2010), fonts should be in a bigger size of at least 24pt to 30pt to make it easier for reader at the back (figure below: 20pt). We could even use 2 different kinds of fonts, one on heading and the next one on contents.
Preferably: Times New Roman, Arial & Verdana (max. 2)

Contrasting Color For Text & Background
Besides that, according to Marquez (2010), we should simply avoid using white background to avoid bright color that probably will cause reader to have a headache in the end and toning it down to lighter color. However, preferably on lighter background with black text rather than dark background with light text. Do keep in mind that pattern or textured could make the contents in the slide hard to be readable by the audience. As well as, use a consistent color scheme throughout the slide presentation.

Graphics & Charts
In order to keep things interesting for reader, images, charts, smart art and shapes could be added. In addition, it will help you in explaining the issue better. Graphics or charts could grab the attention of the audience and could create a more exciting atmosphere in the presentation (Marquez 2010).

On top of that, presenter must make sure that the format used can be supported by the computer and are able to operate at any other computer. Try to avoid using too many slides, cut down unnecessary words (straight to the point) so that the audience can read it in a glance and using visual aid to help you in the presentation.  The limitation of the slides is to avoid drawn out and continuity of changing the slides that could create a distraction for the audience and keeping the presentation as interesting as possible (Banks 2010).

Above sample is created for the purpose of understanding the issue of publication and design on dynamics in document design. This post is to share the improvement that have to make on the slides and I hope that the above information will be useful to you as future references on good PowerPoint presentation.
